Matterlurgy

Project

Matterlurgy is a collaborative project between London-based artists Helena Hunter and Mark Peter Wright. They investigate critical ecologies of environmental change across disciplines and media, combining the production of artworks with events, exhibitions and live performances. Matterlurgy has produced projects on air pollution, waste, flooding and climate modelling. Works have been produced in relation to sites such as a hydroelectric power station, disused steel mills, an ice simulation laboratory, an abandoned copper mine and museum galleries and collections. They have collaborated on projects with scientists from Cambridge University, University College London, King’s College London, Sheffield University, Royal Holloway University London and the National Oceanography Centre. Matterlurgy’s work has been commissioned and exhibited in various venues and with various collaborators, including the Delfina Foundation, Arts Catalyst, Tate Modern, Raven Row Gallery, Gazelli Art House, Whitechapel Gallery, ICA, The Showroom Gallery, Watermans Gallery, UK Green Film Festival, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (UK). Matterlurgy has shown his work internationally at Bòlit Contemporary Art Centre (Spain), Mains d’Œuvres (France), ONOMA, HIAP Frontiers of Retreat, Titanik Gallery (Finland), Dalane Kulturfestival, Rogaland Kunstsenter (Norway).
