Abelardo Gil-Fournier

Artist and researcher

Abelardo Gil-Fournier (Salé, Morocco, 1979) is an artist and researcher based in Madrid. Originally trained in Physics, he holds a PhD in Art from the Winchester School of Art (UK). He is currently working at FAMU in Prague (Czech Republic) within the project “Operative Images and Visual Culture”. His practice addresses the intertwining of media with the living crust of the planet. His work spans different techniques, from sound and video installations to computer processes such as machine learning, to assemblages in which the living is mixed with the animated. His work has been exhibited and discussed in international forums. He is currently writing a book on plant surfaces with Jussi Parikka and is preparing a solo exhibition at the Cerezales Antonino y Cinia Foundation.
